Most gifts for gear people miss in one of two ways. Either it's something they'll never carry, or it arrives dead: a great flashlight with no battery in the box, opened on a holiday morning when every store is closed.
A good EDC gift gets carried every day for years, so it's worth getting right. This guide is split by budget, from stocking stuffers up to the titanium light the flashlight person in your life won't buy for themselves. Prices are what they were when we wrote this in October 2026. Two rules first.
Two rules before you buy
Make sure it works out of the box. Lights with a built-in battery and a USB-C port charge off the same cable as a phone, so they're ready to go. Lights that take a removable 18650 or 21700 cell often ship without one. Those are great lights, but the gift has to include a cell and a charger, or it ends up in a drawer.
Buy for how they carry, not for the lumen number. Someone who carries only keys wants a keychain light. Someone with a clip on everything wants a pocket light. Someone who always has a bag can handle something bigger. A 3,000-lumen light that's too big to carry does less than a 400-lumen light that's always in a pocket.
Stocking stuffers: under $20
The NightGlow S11 ($14.99) is the easy one. It's a tiny keychain light with a glow-in-the-dark body, a white main beam, a soft side light, red, red-and-blue flashing, and a 365nm UV mode that also recharges the glow. It has a magnetic tail and charges over USB-C in about 35 minutes. It's a good first "real" flashlight, and it's cheaper in multi-packs if you're covering a whole family.
Small add-ons for someone who already owns a light:
- Yonii Magnetic USB Charger ($4.99). Charges a loose 18650 or 21700 off any USB port, and it's small enough to live in a glove box or travel bag.
- Convoy screw-on pocket clip ($0.99) and colored tailcap buttons ($0.25 each, some glow). A cheap way to customize an S2+ or C8+ they already have.
- Compass Thermometer Carabiner ($3.99). Simple, analog, and it clips to a bag strap.
- Waterproof EDC Container ($13.99). Keeps cash, meds, or matches dry on a keyring or in a pack.
- UV Pen Light ($14.99). A pen-sized 365nm UV light with USB-C charging, for anyone who'd enjoy finding pet stains or checking bills.
The whole under-$20 collection is worth a scroll if you're filling more than one stocking.
The sweet spot: $20 to $40
The Convoy S2+ ($24.99) is the light a lot of flashlight people started with, and the one they still recommend. It's a single-18650 light with a tail clicky switch, it weighs 121.1 g (4.27 oz) with a cell in, and it's easy to upgrade later with new drivers, emitters, and tubes. It comes in a whole rack of anodized colors. It does not include a battery, so add a flat-top 18650 like the Molicel P28A ($9.99) and a charger, either the Yonii above or the Vapcell Q2S-C ($10.99) dual-bay. The S2+ has a spring at each end of the cell, so a flat-top cell fits fine. That's a complete gift for about $40 to $46.
The Wuben G5 ($22.99) is the pick for someone who isn't into flashlights yet. It's a 400-lumen pocket light with a built-in battery and USB-C charging under a sliding cover. It's rated IP68, good for 2 m (6.6 ft) under water for an hour. The head rotates 180°, the base is magnetic, there's a clip, and it has seven RGB colors plus beacon modes. Nothing else to buy.
The NightRail 1000 ($24.99) is a slim, flat stick light with a wide 1,000-lumen flood beam, separate power and mode buttons, USB-C charging, and a rubber wrist loop molded into the head. It's great for dog walks, and for anyone who hates clicking through modes to find the one they want.
The SPERAS ARC Ti ($38.99) is for the keys-only carrier. It's a titanium keychain light with 150 lumens on High for about an hour and 10 lumens on Low for about 5.5 hours. Unscrew the head to reach the USB-C port. Small, tough, and titanium shrugs off years of rattling around with keys.
The CipherLight 1000 ($39.99) puts a white beam, UV, and an RGB side light into one rechargeable pocket light, with a magnetic clip that sticks to a fridge or toolbox when both hands are busy.
For the tinkerer, the Pocket Credit Card Lockpick Set with a clear practice padlock ($24.99) is a fun, wallet-sized gift. The see-through lock shows exactly what the pins are doing while they learn. Locksport has one rule: only pick locks you own.
Bigger gifts: $40 to $70
The NODE-01 Urban Explorer Starter Loadout ($58.99) is the best "get someone carrying" gift we have. It's a CipherLight 1000, a ripstop gear pouch with dual zippers, and the compass thermometer carabiner, packed together at 16% off the separate price with no code needed. The light charges over USB-C, so there's nothing else to buy.
The S12 UV Master Bundle ($64.99) is for the curious one: pet owners, rock and mineral hunters, anyone who'd enjoy checking a hotel room. It's the Convoy S12 triple-emitter 365nm UV light plus a 21700 cell and a magnetic charger, all matched so it works the day it's opened.
For someone who already loves flashlights, get the one they keep looking at and never buy. The S2+ also comes in brass ($41.99), copper, titanium ($59.99), and specialty titanium finishes like Multi-Color Circuit ($69.99). It's the same proven S2+ inside, in a metal body that ages with them. Browse the Convoy specialty finishes collection to see them all. These ship without a battery too, so pair one with a P28A and a charger. Stock on the specialty finishes runs thin, often just a few of each.
Quick picks by person

- Already a flashlight person: a brass or titanium S2+, or a better charger for the cells they already run.

- Pet owners and the curious: the S12 UV Master Bundle or the UV Pen Light.
Before you wrap it
Charge built-in-battery lights before wrapping, so they're ready the moment they're opened. If the gift includes a loose lithium cell, keep it in its packaging or a plastic case, never rattling around a box with keys or coins. And if you're not sure which battery fits a light they already own, send us a message before you buy. It's a quick answer, and it beats a return.
